As an Army BRAT, Laura Evans lived throughout the United States and in Garmisch, Germany. At the age of 17 she moved to Frisco, Colorado and has lived in Colorado ever since. Beginning in 1996, Ms. Evans attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University graduating magna cum laude.
She worked for several years as a paralegal in Steamboat Springs, Colorado before attending the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2006. At the University of Denver she earned two scholarships and won several academic awards before receiving her Juris Doctorate in May 2009.
During law school, Ms. Evans clerked at the Native American Rights Fund, a non-profit law firm dedicated to defending the rights of Indian tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide and attended the Federal Bar Association’s Indian Law Conference and the 2007 Tribal Round Table on Climate, Tribal Energy Development and Habitat Protection. She was recognized by Walter R. Echohawk for her contribution of legal research regarding the evolvement of International Indigenous Law in his book “In the Courts of the Conqueror the Ten Worst Indian Law Cases Ever Decided,” published in 2010.
Before moving to Salida, Ms. Evans worked for the Mountain Law Group and the Colorado Law Group in Summit County, Colorado focusing on real estate, business, and landlord tenant disputes and civil litigation related to construction defects, personal injury, and intellectual property.
Ms. Evans was thrilled when the opportunity to live and work in Salida arose. She joined the Marquez Law Office in June 2012 and is enjoying being part of such an exceptional community. Her nine year old daughter, Linet Elaine, who was elated at the prospect of a four day school week, has begun the fourth grade at Longfellow Elementary. This winter she looks forward to snowboarding with her family at Monarch Mountain and becoming more familiar with all that Chaffee County has to offer.
